Dallas, TX (April 22, 2009) – Orion Communications, a provider of Public Safety software, announces the successful implementation of its CourtNotify electronic subpoena system for Judicial and Law Enforcement agencies throughout Orleans Parish, LA. As of February 2nd of this year, the electronic processing of subpoenas went into full production for multiple Criminal District Courts throughout the Parish. Since this time, over 4,771 police officer and 6,530 civilian subpoenas have been successfully processed electronically.

The CourtNotify system was acquired by the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation (NOPJF) to achieve a key objective -- the establishment of a permanent governance structure for cooperative efforts to improve New Orleans criminal justice information systems. CourtNotify’s comprehensive integration with the Parish’s court case management system and the Sheriff’s jail system has removed duplicated data entries and streamlined subpoena issuance, delivery results, and court documentation.

The project has been a cooperative effort between the Criminal District Court, District Attorney’s Office, Office of the Mayor, New Orleans Police Department, Public Defender, Orleans Parish Sheriff, Municipal Court, and Juvenile Court. All of these agencies will collectively use the CourtNotify system to send and receive electronic subpoenas and notices, record civilian subpoena service, provide inmate appearance management, manage civilian witness addresses, and monitor witness activities to ensure court attendance.

Within the first 48 hours of going live, the New Orleans Police Department received over 600 subpoenas and subsequently acknowledged receipt of over 584 subpoenas electronically. To date, over 3,900 subpoenas have been successfully served electronically to New Orleans Police Department Personnel.

"The officer adoption of the new system has been outstanding,” stated Orion President Leslie Delatte. “We’ve been deploying CourtNotify for a long time and when we see statistics like these in the first few months it proves the collaborative effort throughout the Parish is top notch -- subpoena receipts are high, escalated notifications are low, and notification exceptions are minimal.”
