When a natural disaster strikes, it's common for first responders to cooperate with personnel from other departments, rushing aid to where it's most needed. For example, the recent response to Hurricane Florence drew specialized assistance from EMS crews from up and down the East Coast.

When departments for disaster readiness and resource sharing plans in advance, they can mobilize quickly and save more lives. This calls for detailed knowledge of what personnel and equipment are available to dispatch to other regions at any given time.

Agencies that use public safety workforce management systems have real-time resource information at their fingertips. When this type of software is interfaced with public safety CAD systems, cross-departmental units can be deployed for a better coordination of efforts. By committing the right people with the right equipment, first responders are able to quickly mount a more effective disaster recovery response.
