The National Fire Protection Association has set a standard of four minutes or less between the time a fire is reported and when firefighters arrive on the scene.
Yet for some rural departments that rely heavily on volunteer firefighters to fill out their staffs, the response time can be much longer due to difficulties coordinating the efforts of the volunteers.
A fast response time can be the difference between life and death when it comes to fires, and departments can't be held back by a lack of adequate staffing. Workforce management software that is integrated with CAD systems for rostering purposes is an effective way to coordinate the dispatching of career and volunteers firefighters. As a result, required units are dispatched and response times are maximized.
